Shallot prices tending to move north
The price of the tiny onion would continue being distorted in the coming months as the Purattasi and Karthigai pattam crop have been affected by pests and illnesses, say trade resources.
Incessant rains and conducive local weather are mentioned to have induced the infestation in the key tracts of Perambalur, Thuraiyur, Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu. All over nine,000 hectares of crop area is believed to have been affected.
