NEW DELHI—People in India reacted to Joe Biden’s final decision to choose Sen. Kamala Harris as his operating mate, some praising her as a robust representative of her mother’s homeland as the initially human being of Indian descent most likely to be nominated for vice president by a top bash.

Lots of Indians took to social media to congratulate Sen. Harris—whose father is from Jamaica and mom from southern India—saying it confirmed the strength of the Indian world diaspora and demonstrated the openness of the American system.
