‘Insulted’ Mamata Banerjee refuses to speak at Netaji event in Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not supply her speech “in protest” at an function at Victoria Memorial here to mark the one hundred and twenty fifth birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose following ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans were raised when she was invited to talk.

She reported “federal government programme must have some dignity” and it “is not fair to insult somebody whom you have invited”.

The function was presided above by Key Minister Narendra Modi.

In her temporary remarks, a visibly upset Mamata Banerjee reported it was a federal government programme and not that of a political celebration.

The Trinamool Congress leader also reported that she was grateful to the Key Minister and Cultural Ministry for organising the function at Kolkata.

“I consider the federal government programme must have some dignity. This is a federal government programme and not a political party’s programme. I am grateful to the Key Minister, Society Ministry for arranging an function in Kolkata. But this is not fair to insult someone whom you have invited. In protest, I am not going to talk something. Jai Hind, Jai Bangla,” she reported.

Netaji’s birth anniversary is being observed as Parakram Diwas in the state.
